arab jews in the time of mohamed was asked by the pagans leaders to verify whether mohamed is a prophet or not by giving them some questions to ask him about.
they gave them this three questions and told them “if he know the answer of this three questions
the man is a prophet follow him,if not he is pretending do with him whatever you like.
the questions was
1-few youth in the first age ,what was there matter? these youth had an amazing matter
2-a man covered the earth till he reached its east and west,what was his matter?

the answer to the three questions was revealed to mohamed in Quran chapter 18 (the cave)

Sahih International: [Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, “Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance.”
Sahih International: And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and exceeded by nine.

Now who was dhul qarnein?
Sadly, the islamic scholars are not sure. Allah did not clarify the identity of dhul qarnein.
Sahih International: Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it [as if] setting in a spring of dark mud, and he found near it a people. We [Allah] said, “O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish [them] or else adopt among them [a way of] goodness.”
So where did he go? To the place where he found the sun setting in a pool of muddy waters. Where is that place? Allah failed to clarify again!!
